From research project Deep Looking ©2021 Jane Boyer
Rephotographed vernacular photography. This project visualises the moment when memory and looking combine to create an imaginary scene. The images in this body of work are taken from an original, but they are not of that original. They are images from my imagination.
Last Day of School, 2020
Last Day of School 20.3.20
Uncertain times ahead
What will be the impact of the coronavirus?
The day the schools closed. An emotional time, my 'year 6' daughter may never go back to primary school again, she won't sit her SATs, is unlikely to have her end of year assembly, or enjoy the last disco with her friends. I am not sure it has all sunk in yet. She has just seen the friends she has grown up with, played with, learnt with for the last time until this virus is over and the scientists make us safe again. We are just about to embark on the UK lock down March 2020.

The People's River Project, 2021
The People’s River project was a community-led programme, where I worked with people who live and work along the River Irk in Manchester. It was inspired by Friedrich Engels writings of the River Irk in his seminal text ‘The Conditions of the Working Class in England’. Commissioned by Manchester Histories, the project aimed to reveal and creatively share the often hidden histories and stories of people’s own local heritage.
