I am interested in figurative art that invokes emotions in the viewer. I want to provoke and enliven and play on this through humour, uncanniness and occasionally uneasiness. I enjoy the challenge of making and coming up with ways of creating an idea. With clay you can replicate anything, it offers a diversity unlike any other material. For me making is as important as the idea itself. I am a strong believer in the artist having direct contact with the creation of the work.

Artist Statement

I am interested in figurative art that invokes emotions in the viewer. I want to provoke and enliven and play on this through humour, uncanniness and occasionally uneasiness. I enjoy the challenge of making and coming up with ways of creating an idea. With clay you can replicate anything, it offers a diversity unlike any other material. For me making is as important as the idea itself. I am a strong believer in the artist having direct contact with the creation of the work.

I am particularly interested in working in response to a person, place or initial suggestion and am particularly interested in residencies within places such as museums and spaces related to history or people. I enjoyed creating work for the Freud Museum and Siobhan Davies Dance Studio and have created large pieces for an adoption charity exhibition.

I like to think that all of my pieces have a human aspect, they relate to the experiences, personalities and history of either myself or the people that the work is in response to.

I am also interesting in gaining new skills in different materials, and spreading my knowledge of skills. I work in ceramics, textiles, wax, resin, fibre-glass and often use photography as a medium of expression.

My work is varied and diverse, I like to use the materials that I feel are appropriate for the subject matter. Idea development through to inception and completion of a piece of work is a constant hands on process and this I believe is what makes a genuine and successful work of art.
